Asaba Bans Non-Native Eze Nwanyi, Restricts Access to Onishe Shrine
The Asagba of Asaba, HRH Prof. Epiphany Chigbogu Azinge, has issued a firm directive banning non-indigenous Eze Nwanyi (female spiritual leaders) from practicing in Asaba. This decision, which takes effect immediately, was reached during the Asagba Executive Council meeting on February 11, 2025.
The new directive also prohibits male traditional healers who are not properly registered with the relevant bodies from operating within Asaba.
Furthermore, access to the revered Onishe shrine will now be strictly regulated. Non-natives of Asaba must be registered by the Otu-Ihaza group before they can visit the shrine, while indigenous worshippers will need clearance from Otu-Ihaza to ensure better monitoring of activities around the sacred site.
The Asagba’s statement warns that anyone who disobeys these new rules will face serious consequence
