The governor of Anambra State, Chief Willie Obiano has reiterated that the scheduled Primary Elections by All Progressives Grand Alliance, APGA, across the federation must be transparent, free and fair to ensure a level playing ground for all.
Speaking recently in Awka, Gov Obiano who is the National Leader of APGA and the Chairman, Board of Trustees emphasized the need to deepen the internal democracy already existing in the party.
The governor frowned at reports that some persons at local government and ward levels plan to use his name and that of his wife, Chief Mrs Ebelechukwu Obiano to confuse and deceive the electorate.
Some persons have formed the habit of dropping the name of the governor, his wife and top government officials just to intimidate the people into believing that they are annointed candidates. That's false and wrong.
"APGA is one big family, the election must be transparent, free and fair. Let the popular candidate win", Gov Obiano said.
While charging APGA faithful not to be intimidated by name dropping but resist anyone saying so, the governor urged the Party hierarchy to do everything possible to avoid any form of favouritism.
Recall that recently, the wife of the governor on return from the United States made a similar call saying, "I did not endorse anybody. I have not promised anybody APGA primary ticket".
With this development, it's evident that anyone claiming to be an annointed candidate both within and outside Anambra State is being fraudulent and should be rejected by the people.
So far, APGA has been very transparent in its handling of the primary processes with daily publication of schedules and reports on the progress made. This is unique to the fastest growing political party in Nigeria.
With the conclusion of Delegates Election, the Party has set out few days for appeals that could arise from areas with concerns.
Barring further changes, the party is set to commence primary elections proper on September 30, 2018 starting with Senatorial Aspirants.
