On the marble....
“Some state governments, in spite of limited resources, have been able to impact on the lives of their people in positive ways. I am happy to say that the government of my own state, Abia, is one of these bright spots. I know that most of our citizens measure developments in terms of roads built. Our Governor, Dr Okezie Ikpeazu, has indeed been a major road builder, especially in Aba, and Abia South. I will only remind him that some parts of the state are looking forward to their own roads.
“But my commendation of the Abia Governor is not based on roads. It is on the remarkable effort he is making in rebuilding the economy-the rebranding of Aba, his industrialization initiatives, the creation of new livelihoods and developing social infrastructure. These efforts are not, quite often, visible. But for me, they bear a striking similarity to my earlier quotes on Late Michael Okpara vision, especially the part that said, ‘apart from educating all citizens and providing medical and health facilities for all, we will be feeding, clothing and housing all; in particular we shall be providing work for all able-bodied men and women...’ I suppose these sum up the main purpose of government and I am commending our Governor because I see that he has keyed into the most important area.”
